4 Winds Winery

The gusts begin again, and we listen.

Natural springs splash down from the windswept cliffs of the Palisades. Positive energy flows with the water and air. In Napa Valley’s celebrated Stags Leap District, we’re at the vortex of great wine.

Native American tales of a magnificent, mystical buck are just a taste of the story. Legends of the elusive stag that began with the native Wappo have evolved for centuries, and local lore contends that the buck can still be seen leaping between rocky crags and across the valley’s sky. It’s all part of the feel of this windswept and wild place—still home to peregrine falcons, coyote, deer, turkey, and rattlesnakes.

Their stories spark an idea.

We visit on a sunny afternoon and we know what’s next. At 90, she’s spry, and never misses a chance to lead us around the house, stopping at framed photographs and wobbly candlestick holders to tell us a story about each one—of travels, weddings, wars, loves, recipes. We want to write it all down.

With Hannah Bergen Heirlooms, we’ve developed a simple, low-tech, and lasting way for anyone to collect information and affix archival-quality tags or labels to furniture, art, tableware, and all sorts of objects. Everything is numbered and coordinated, and easy to share with family and friends.

Recall the story, and a humble bowl or vase is elevated to family heirloom status.

We think that’s lovely.

Blankets From Emma

Emma’s story.

In a tall house in Charleston tangled with jessamine,
a dog named Emma loved to snuggle all the time.
With her blanket she’d sleep,
and with her blanket she’d play.
She kept that fleece-soft blanket near her
every single day.

Inspired by a special dog, each Blankets From Emma item is designed and sewn in the USA, including all binding, trim and tags. For the blanket fabric itself, we use only the highest quality polyester fleece, manufactured in Massachusetts. This is the very same, supremely soft and enduring fleece of Emma’s original blanket.

The Standard

hello james.

The Charleston island with an indie spirit. Edged by rivers and salt marsh, the James I. life + style is urban but closer to nature—Wappoo Creek and Stono River sunsets, bicycling and boating, sea island farm markets. We’re less blockbuster and more indy film. For dinner, we’re looking for a good wine or local beer and maybe some roasted Folly River oysters or wood-fired pizza. Easier island living, the outdoors, the kitchen—it all matters. One bridge from the peninsula, but we’re definitely different over here.

the standard is rising.

Cooper River Farms

On a high bluff in Charleston’s Lowcountry

Cooper River Farms is fresh, new and river-facing. The 56 acres of woods and former farmland is threaded with creeks and trails that lead to shade trees so grand, we’ve added adult-sized swings at the waters edge. Nature, water and just- built apartment homes are in full effect. So is the Lowcountry character. Bluff and barn. Saltwater pool and river breezes.

Christophe Harbour

The most fashionable debut of the young century.

A quiet island of sugar cane and sea breezes, St. Kitts was often overlooked by travelers. While intense development sprouted on other islands, St. Kitts retained its soul.

By yacht. By jet. Those who can, will be here.

From this Caribbean haven, Christophe Harbour will make its splash–a pinnacle destination for those whose passion is to explore the world.
